Number of flood evacuees in Sabah up, unchanged in Johor
The number of flood victims evacuated from several villages in Beaufort and Membakut districts in Sabah has increased to 377 people as of 9am today.
The Sabah Civil Defence Force in a statement said 377 victims from 136 families were evacuated to the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) at Selagon hall here this morning compared with only 206 victims from 27 families recorded yesterday.
The PPS was opened at 2.50am on Tuesday following continuous rain since Monday, causing 20 villages in both districts inundated by floodwaters.
Several roads connecting the villages were also affected and inaccessible to all types of vehicles.
As of 7am today, Sungai Padas' water level was at 8.28 metres, which is above the danger level of 8.07 metres, while the Sungai Membakut water level reached of 7.37 metres which exceeded danger level of 6.80 metres.
Meanwhile, the number of flood victims in the Kota Tinggi district in Johor remained unchanged at 717 people from 182 families as of 8 am today.
State Local Government, Urban Well-being and Environment Committee chairperspn Tan Chen Choon, in a statement, said all the victims were housed in five temporary evacuation centres (PPS), namely, at the Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) New Kota; Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Mawai; SK Teluk Ramunia; Kota Tinggi Vocational College and Seri Teratai Batu 4 hall.
A total of 69 people from 14 families are given temporary shelter at SJKC New Kota; 24 people from eight families in SK Mawai; 46 people from 13 families (SK Teluk Ramunia): 526 victims from 133 families (Kota Tinggi Vocational College) and 52 evacuees from 14 families (Seri Teratai Batu 4 hall).
