Gov't to probe tattoo expo over 'half-naked' modelling
The Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry has ordered a probe into the Malaysia Tattoo Expo 2019 following viral photos from the event where models were in a state of near-nakedness.
Minister Mohammadin Ketapi said the tattoo expos have been held in Sabah in previous years but did not have such incidents.
"I understand it was done behind closed doors but this contravenes etiquette.
"Hosting international events is good for the tourism industry but not this way. It doesn't reflect the true image of Malaysia. which is mannerly and decent," he said in a statement today.
Mohammadin said the ministry, which supported the event, did not give permission for any 'lewd' elements.
The Malaysia Tattoo Expo 2019 was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from Nov 29 to Dec 1, with participants from more than 35 countries.
Mohammadin's office informed the media that the expo organisers have been called in by police for questioning.
