Number of incest cases filed in court on the rise
The number of incest cases filed in court this year has increased compared to last year, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Liew Vui Keong.
He said as at August this year, 57 cases were recorded compared to 21 throughout last year.
This year 35 of the cases were recorded as no further action (NFA) compared to seven cases last year, Liew (above) added.
"As for rape cases, the number filed in court as at August was 269 cases while last year there were 481 cases," he said in a written reply to a question posed by Kasthuriraani Patto (Harapan-Batu Kawan) which was posted on the Parliament website.
Meanwhile, 183 molest cases were filed in court in the first eight months of this year compared to 384 throughout 2018.
Fifty-four sexual harassment cases were recorded as at last August, compared to 90 cases last year.
