Cops to live in PPR units in move to curb crime in KL

In an effort to curb crime and improve the safety and quality of life at the People's Housing Projects (PPR) in the federal capital, 38 residential units have been allocated for police personnel.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim said the joint initiative by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) was to ensure the well-being of the PPR community.

For the first phase, a total of 27 units would be made available for the police personnel but the number was expected to reach 38 in the following phases, he said.

"Any crime-related information can be conveyed immediately to the police personnel who live in the area," he told reporters after attending a Caring Community and Well-being programme at the Desa Rejang public housing (PA) project in Kuala Lumpur today.

Also present were Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad, Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Roslan Bek Ahmad and National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) director-general Zulkifli Abdullah.

Mazlan said that among the PPR that would provide the units in the first phase were PPR Seri Selangor, PPR Seri Alam and PPR Seri Sabah, besides PA Desa Rejang.
