Standard Chartered Marathon runners injured in hit-and-run incident
Three participants in the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon run have been injured, with one in critial condition, in a hit-and-run incident.
In a statement on the event's Facebook page, the organiser said injured participants are receiving medical attention.
"Earlier today, at the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon, there was an accident involving a car that ploughed through our safety barriers.
"The affected runners are receiving medical treatment. The well-being of our runners remain our main priority and we are offering assistance to those affected by this incident.
"We are also cooperating with the relevant authorities and will provide an update when more information regarding the incident is clear," it said.
Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman, in a Twitter statement, said he was informed of the hit-and-run incident.
"I hope the authorities will take swift action in finding the wrongdoer which broke through the safety barriers, and for the organiser to assist the injured victims in whatever ways possible.
"We prioritise the safety of the rakyat foremost," he said in a statement.
