Backdrop of 'Kong: Skull Island' in Ninh Binh dismantled

The set of the Hollywood’s blockbuster “Kong: Skull Island” within the Trang An Ecotourism Complex in the northern province of Ninh Binh has been dismantled, to preserve the natural beauty of the area.

The decision to break down the set is made following the recommendations from Unesco, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.

It means that some of the boat tours in the area will no longer include the backdrop of “Kong: Skull Island” like before.

Pham Thi Thanh Huong, head of the Unesco Office in Vietnam’s Culture Department said she highly appreciated the immediate act of Trang An management board.

“Unesco does not discourage the creative activities, but the imaginary scenes of an aboriginal village might distort the core values of Trang An natural heritage,” Huong said in an interview with Zing.vn.

Since its opening, the shooting site of the blockbuster in Trang An received thousands of tourists yearly.

“Kong: Skull Island”, directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, was the biggest Hollywood movie to be filmed in Vietnam.

The blockbuster was filmed in Quang Binh, Ninh Binh, and Quang Ninh provinces.

It grossed more than US$142 million at the box office worldwide and US$6.6 million in Vietnam only, after just two weeks of release.
