Dr M promises protection for whistleblowing companies

Protection will be given to companies that provide the authorities with information on corruption, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said.

“Companies which provide information on corruption will be protected,” Mahathir was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times.

Mahathir said this last night in his appeal to “Corporate Malaysia” in the public and private sectors to aid the Pakatan Harapan government in the fight against corruption.

This, he reportedly said, would be good for business.

“When corruption is reduced, companies will make more money, which in turn will improve the compensation to employees, shareholders and the public as well.”

Last month, MACC Chief Commissioner Latheefa Koya made a similar plea, calling on whistleblowers to speak to the anti-graft body first, instead of the media.

Latheefa said this was because some complainants, who have spoken to the MACC, then went on to reveal the same information to the press.

This, she said, could jeopardise the MACC's investigations.
