High tide phenomenon in Selangor under control
The high tide phenomenon which hit coastal areas of Selangor is reported to be under control today with no cases of overflowing seawater.
A Bernama check at the Telok Gong fishing jetty in Port Klang at about 8am showed that the sea was relatively calm and the weather was bright.
The Selangor Disaster Management Unit, when contacted, said the bunds in the coastal areas of five districts identified to be at risk are strong and in good condition.
The Klang, Kuala Langat, Sepang, Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam districts have been placed on high alert for possible floods in the event of strong winds and heavy rain during the high tide phenomenon.
The unit had earlier said the high tide phenomenon is expected to occur yesterday and today, from Sept 29 to Oct 2, and Oct 27 to 30 in coastal areas of Selangor, with the water level predicted to hit 5.7m.
Various agencies including local authorities have been directed to be on alert to face the high tide phenomenon.
