Perak exco accused of soliciting commission for land deals
A Perak state assemblyperson has been accused of attempting to solicit “commission” from two companies in relation to their bid for Perak state land totalling 93 acres.
His former special officer Beh Yong Kean lodged a police report this morning, alleging that the assemblyperson, who is also a Perak state exco, intended to offer his support to the two companies in exchange for a “commission”.
Beh claimed his former boss leaked minutes of a state government meeting to him so that he could initiate the negotiation process with the two companies.
“He instructed me to ask for commission from both companies for his support in the state government meeting,” Beh alleged in his police report sighted by Malaysiakini today.
He also claimed that another former special officer also witnessed this exchange between him and the assemblyperson, who is one of the 11 state exco members in Perak.
In a statement later, Beh said leaking the minutes of a state government meeting is a crime under the Official Secrets Act 1972 and urged the police to investigate this matter.
“As a representative of the people and a state exco, he should not be leaking government secrets and using his position to solicit bribes.
“I hope the police will investigate this fairly without looking at his position within the government,” Beh said.
Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu (below) said that the state government will not take these allegations lightly and will cooperate fully with the authorities in their investigations.
"As to any other police reports, we must and will give full cooperation for a thorough investigation.
"This is a serious allegation and we shall not take it lightly," he said in a WhatsApp message to Malaysiakini.
Meanwhile, Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak said he is dismayed by the allegations and will leave the matter to the authorities for the time being.
“The matter will be discussed with members of the state leadership once more information is available.
“Our commitment to ensure the state government functions without any problems is important to ensure the people’s welfare.
“As the (state) PKR chairperson, I will not take any allegation of corruption lightly because it is contrary to the party’s reform agenda,” he said in a statement.
Malaysiakini has made multiple attempts to contact the assemblyperson through text messages, WhatsApp and phone calls on this matter but he has yet to respond at the time of writing.
