Rape charge: Cops quiz exco's family, complainant in safe house
Police have questioned several individuals including the family of the Perak exco member accused of raping his Indonesian domestic worker.
Perak police chief Razarudin Husain said the 23-year-old complainant has also been placed in a safe location pending the completion of investigations into the matter.
According to him, the domestic worker had alleged in her July 8 police report that the incident took place at the exco member's residence in Meru, Ipoh.
“Acting on this report, police recorded her statement and sent her for medical examination.
“Forensic investigations were also carried out at the house where evidence was collected for analysis,” he added in a statement this afternoon.
Razarudin said following preliminary investigations, the case has been classified under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
The police chief also confirmed that the 49-year-old suspect was arrested yesterday to facilitate investigations.
The DAP state assemblyperson has since been released on police bail.
Earlier, the exco's lawyer denied that his client was arrested, claiming that the father of four went to the police station on his own accord.
“He was not arrested but went to the police station voluntarily. Police did not arrest him,” Leong Cheok Keng told Malaysiakini.
The alleged rape incident had led the state palace to postpone the swearing-in of the Perak exco line-up, which was scheduled to take place tomorrow.
