Too young for politics? PKR Youth leader dares MP to disband wing

A PKR Youth leader today challenged Subang MP Wong Chen to present the party's political bureau with a motion to disband the youth wing, after the latter cautioned against joining politics at "too young" an age.

Responding to an Instagram story posted by Wong, PKR Federal Territories Youth chief Na'im Brundage noted that PKR president Anwar Ibrahim first entered politics at the age of 22, while party deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali had begun serving as Anwar's assistant at age 23.

"Our question to YB Wong Chen is, who will bring up the voices and agenda of youths if there is no youth representation in our local politics?

"With that (question in mind), the Federal Territories PKR Youth would like to challenge (Wong) to propose a motion to the PKR political bureau to disband the entire youth wing," said Na'im in a statement today.

He said that youths who felt sidelined by BN had contributed to the coalition's loss in the 14th general election, and cautioned Harapan not to make the same mistake.

Earlier today, Wong had shared a photograph of himself with the quote: "If you enter politics too young, what you learn is backstabbing, politicking, and you have no idea how the world works. So go out there and work.

"When you start earning money and pay your taxes, you will have a much more clearer idea on how things actually work in society. Be a good citizen first before entering politics.”

Na'im said Wong's posting had made it appear as if all individuals who joined politics at a young age would resort to backstabbing as a means to progress, failing to gain real-life experiences along the way.

"We agree there is a segment of leaders in youth politics which leans towards dirty politics as illustrated by the YB.

"However, we also hold to our principle to reject any effort to paint all young politicians with the same brush," he stressed.

In his post, Wong did not mention any individual or make reference to any party either within or outside PKR.

PKR Santubong Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz had recently sparked a nationwide scandal after confessing that he was one of two individuals in a series of leaked sex videos. He further claimed the other person was Azmin.

PKR subsequently issued a show-cause letter against the 27-year-old, a move that was approved by the political bureau.

Azmin has denied the allegations against him, claiming that they are libel meant to destroy his political career.

The matter is still under police investigation.
