Muhyiddin to announce new Johor Bersatu chief after Hari Raya
Speculation surrounding the appointment of a Johor Bersatu chairperson is expected to end after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations next month.
Berita Harian today quoted Johor Bersatu media director Solihan Badri (photo, above) as saying that party president Muhyiddin Yassin was expected to announce the person ahead of the party elections.
"We expect the name of a new chairperson for Johor Bersatu to be announced by the party president after Hari Raya Aidilfitri, but before the party elections.
"Before his announcement, Bersatu secretary-general Marzuki Yahya will issue an official letter regarding the matter," Solihan said.
The Tenang assemblyperson, who was recently appointed as the Johor exco in charge of works, infrastructure and transport, declined to reveal the candidate for Muhyiddin's replacement.
"It's better for us to wait for the president himself to announce. However, the name of the candidate is ready and we accept the decision of the top leaders," Splihan was quoted as saying.
Last Friday, Berita Harian reported that Puteri Wangsa assemblyperson Mazlan Bujang, who was dropped from the new Johor exco line-up, will be appointed as the new Johor Bersatu chief.
According to the report, Mazlan had expressed readiness to accept any decision made by Bersatu's central leaders.
Muhyiddin was appointed the first Johor Bersatu chairperson and later handed over the post to Osman Sapian, who resigned as Johor menteri besar on April 13.
Osman's successor as menteri besar, Dr Sahruddin Jamal, currently holds the position of Johor Bersatu secretary.
