Perak MB promises new Ipoh mayor won't be political appointee

A new Ipoh mayor will be appointed by the end of the month, and it will not be a political appointee, Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu said today.

Faizal said the candidate, who is an Ipoh local and fluent in Japanese, will replace Zamri Man.

He added that the appointment had received the consent of Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Shah.

The menteri besar said this to reporters after laying the foundation for the At-Taiyyibin Islamic Learning Centre in Tanah Hitam today.

He was asked to comment on Zamri’s status, as the Ipoh mayor has not been seen for a few months, allegedly due to health problems.

“The state secretariat will take action. There are procedures to be complied with in such circumstances,” he noted.

The At-Taiyyibin Islamic Learning Centre, which is being built on a 2.83ha site, is expected to be ready in three years.
