S'wak Harapan prepares to take on GPS in state election
Sarawak Pakatan Harapan at its first meeting today deliberated at length its strategies to take on Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the coming state election, says chairperson Chong Chieng Jen.
The meeting was also joined by Bersatu representatives, as well as leaders from DAP, PKR and Amanah.
"It was a very fruitful meeting and it is now a matter of rolling out the plan and strategy decided in our meeting," said Chong at a press conference after the meeting.
Chong also disclosed that in the meeting they had formed a state Harapan secretariat with two representatives from each component party sitting in the body.
He said Harapan Sarawak would be holding its first convention in about two months in Kuching, but the date and venue would be decided later.
On seat allocation among the four component parties, Chong said seat negotiations were in progress, and added that there would be further meetings to finalise the matter.
" We will definitely go to the election as Pakatan Harapan and there will be Pakatan Harapan candidates," he added.
Chong said it was unlikely to see three-cornered fights in the state election.
"What is more important is for the four parties to work as a team. Our focus and priority is to work together and help to implement the federal government policies for the benefit of the people in Sarawak," added Chong.
