Boo invites Bersatu on South Africa tour to learn about racism

Johor DAP committee member Boo Cheng Hau is inviting Bersatu, PAS, and Umno on a study tour to South Africa to learn about racism.

"(We will) visit South Africa's Capetown Malays and the once white-only National Party which has abandoned white nativism and white-only membership.

"I would volunteer to give them a free pre-trip briefing on South Africa's apartheid history. The trip should not use GLC or state funds.

"If after the trip, Bersatu insists on still (being a) race-based (party), it should seriously consider leaving the multicultural Pakatan Harapan, and join PAS and Umno for their common race-based agenda," Boo said today.

He said this in a statement rebuffing criticism of him from Bersatu supreme council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan.

Wan Saiful said Boo should not dream and equate his call for Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to resign to the latter's call for first premier Tunku Abdul Rahman to quit.

Boo retorted that he had no intention of being like Mahathir.

"I would like to stress that not only have I never dreamt to be like Mahathir, on the contrary, I have pledged not to be like him after reading his racism-charged 'The Malay Dilemma' which expresses his world view that has laid the foundation for the present racially divisive policies," he said.

Boo had also cited Bersatu's acceptance of Umno defectors, and its dealings with PAS in his criticisms of Mahathir.

These, he said, were issues that Wan Saiful and Bersatu should reflect on and explain, instead of accusing him of trying to sabotage Bersatu amid the Semenyih by-election.
