'Is PAS refusing to prove Dr M coup claim because it's another lie?'

Dusun Tua assemblyperson Edry Faizal Eddy Yusof has questioned whether PAS' refusal to back up its claim of an internal coup attempt against Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is due to it being a lie.

"Is this another lie endorsed by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang for strategic reasons, like how secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan defended central committee member Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz?" he asked in a statement today.

Edry was responding to PAS Youth chief Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi, who told Lim Guan Eng to seek answers from Mahathir after the DAP secretary-general had demanded proof of the alleged plot.

The DAP lawmaker also likened the coup claim to Nik Abduh walking back his denial that it was him in an audio recording admitting to PAS receiving funds from Umno.

After his initial denial, Nik Abduh eventually said his lie was sanctioned by his party president.

PAS leaders subsequently came to his defence, claiming that lying was permissible on strategic grounds.

As Edry said in his statement, the burden of proof in Islam lies on those who make the accusation.

"Just because there is the word 'Islam' in PAS' name, it does not mean that lies can be legitimised in the name of God and religion," he stressed.

Separately, Edry also lodged a police report over an article published on The Third Force claiming, among others, that DAP leaders were being trained in Israel.

The website also alleged that the party wants to seize land belonging to Malays and turn them into Christians, and to replace the inspector-general of police and armed forces chief with individuals of Chinese descent.
