Deafening silence over judge’s allegations
MP SPEAKS | I urge the prime minister and cabinet to discuss the shocking and explosive allegations made by the sitting Court of Appeal judge Hamid Sultan Abu Backer in an affidavit filed in the Kuala Lumpur High Court last week.
The deafening silence and prolonged delay in making a decisive announcement to form a royal commission of inquiry is causing growing anxiety and insecurity among the public in general, and members of the legal fraternity in particular.
The thought of having corrupt judges in the judiciary in Malaysia causes great fear and also erodes confidence in the legal system, especially for litigants.
The public demands that the Pakatan Harapan government pay urgent and immediate attention to the daring and commendable revelations made by the brave judge.
It should ensure that this opportunity is used to flush out the ‘rotten apples’ who have served, and are still serving, in the judiciary.
These corrupt judges must be immediately identified and dealt with severely so that it serves as a lesson to other judges that no one is above the law.
I urge the prime minister and cabinet to endorse and announce the formation of an RCI immediately.
After all, it is also a promise made in the Harapan election manifesto to reform the institutions of the government and this includes the judicial system.
Especially so, in light of the recent revelations.
