LETTER | Move away from hate politics, cultivate discourse instead

LETTER | The time has come for Malaysia to move away from an inclination to hate politics and focus on cultivation and discourse, exchange of ideas, good policies among the country’s leadership and political spectrum.

In view of the instability of world economies now, the only option for Malaysia to progress and compete globally is to have a stable environment, especially in politics and discourse moving forward.

Whatever people have said about Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s performance, at least it has in some way provided Malaysia with a real foundation in terms of further progress, unity among her people, real transparency, and anti-corruption in governmental business and decisions.

Whatever people say about the Government now, at least the country has now moved forward in terms of meritorious advancement and transparency within the government administration.

To be fair to the leadership, it is working hard to put a real motion for progress and unity among her people and among regions, particularly Sabah and Sarawak.

The opposition must now move away from extreme political parochialism and conversations on race and religion.

In other countries, a shadow cabinet must be in place to “challenge” the performance of the government and the prime minister’s policies and decisions affecting the people.

The opposition parties must make their “presence” felt in Parliament in terms of debates, confronting the prime minister, especially in terms of good ideas and proposed policies for the government.

The prime minister and his ministers are always ready to debate based on facts, figures, and data on pressing issues affecting the country.

Parliament should now cultivate fewer rhetorical speeches and more real debates, at least for the good image of the August house in future.

In this aspect, the shadow cabinet by the opposition would show credibility and an alternative leader for the country.

It is also suggested that more appointed leaders like the finance minister II should be placed in Parliament to put forth credible ideas and future undertakings for the country.

Rightly, good policies and any good work by the prime minister and the government should be supported and further motivated by the people at large, even by the opposition.

It’s time to move away from hate politics, extreme parochialism and race and religious undertones for the country.

The country must reset and reroute to progress and enhance development. This framework is now being laid out for the country under the leadership of the prime minister and should be supported for the good of the country.
