LETTER | No need incentives for RTD summonses
LETTER | Transport Minister Anthony Loke has affirmed with the statement that no discounts will be offered on traffic summonses issued by the Road and Transport Department (RTD) after attending a unity government anniversary celebration in Kuala Lumpur.
It is only logical to come up with this statement or RTD would be sending out a wrong signal to the people.
In schools, children are taught to be always on the correct path or else they would have to face the consequences for going against the rules and regulations.
In actuality, if traffic offences are settled early, they should be rewarded with a reduced fine, instead of being rewarded for late settlement of summonses.
This concept is practised in certain parking complexes, whereby the early birds that come to park their cars are given a reduced charge for the day.
It is simply ridiculous to hand out incentives to the wrongdoers. It doesn't paint a decent picture for the society at large.
Traffic summonses are meant to educate as well as a deterrent to all motorists, so as to abide by the road signages.
It is only logical that common sense has finally prevailed.
