LETTER | Beware! Racism can cripple Malaysia quickly
LETTER | We have spent much of our focus, resources and efforts in battling the increasing racist sentiments in the country.
Little do Malaysians realise that the political enmity being sown in the country bordering on racist and apartheid-like sentiments and divisiveness can ultimately cripple the nation in a very short time and in quick succession.
Pitting one race against others. Preferential treatments that benefit one race while disadvantaging others. Crafting policies based on majority-minority race-based demographics. Ostracising non-Malays with belittling name callings like 'pendatang'.
All of these are the real reasons why we are losing out to our neighbouring countries who were way, way behind us not so long ago.
Just consider.
Suppose India, China, Portugal and other empathising nations took back the non-Malays: what do you think will happen to Malaysia?
Of course, when these nations take back the Indians, Chinese, Portuguese, and Sikhs, the governments of these nations will also abandon trade relations with Malaysia.
Along with it, defence, technological health, and educational progress and opportunities will not be easily accessible to Malaysia.
Such is the reality of the price too heavy to pay when racism continues to take root.
Hence, our politicians must lead the way to strengthen our 60-over decades of efforts to unite and nurture a seamless citizenry where we all think, act, and bebefit as Malaysians first.
It is this unity in diversity that will enrich the nation, empower its people, and strengthen our sovereign status.
Time is against us.
