LETTER | Bersih needs RM60,000 for state polls

LETTER | The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih) is appealing to the public to help in the upcoming six state elections from 29 July to polling day on 12 August 2023.

With nearly 10 million votes at stake in the six state elections, Bersih is planning to carry out election monitoring activities, including:

1. Mobilising and training 89 election observers to monitor for election offences and hate speech in 61 hot seats.

2. Helping to counter misinformation by updating an election monitoring website dedicated to public complaints on election offences and other related issues at www.pemantau.org.

3. Providing voter education via establishing a call centre for enquiries regarding election matters such as voter registration, postal voting, polling centres and other related issues.

4. Launching a public campaign to increase voter turnout (#VoteLokal) and encouraging out-of-state voters to return to vote in their respective state constituencies/DUN.

A high voter turnout is critical for democracy and adds legitimacy to the election results and the new state governments.

Our estimated budget to run all these programmes and campaigns is RM60,000, and we need your help.

While most of our volunteers are not expecting any remuneration, we will provide them with a stipend to cover food and travel expenses.

So, we are appealing to you to donate generously to Bersih for us to monitor the six state elections effectively and to get voters out to vote.

No amount is too small, and every Ringgit donated will be accounted for, and we will publicly share a report after the election.

Donate to ensure clean and fair elections for Malaysia.
