LETTER | Dr M, please cease your expired prescriptions

LETTER | In recent past weeks Dr Mahathir Mohamad has irked the people. He must cease his obvious, expired prescriptions to seemingly heal the nation.

His one time cabinet member Nazri Abdul Aziz (now our ambassador to the US) is one of several outspoken critics who even advised Anwar Ibrahim's government to not hesitate arresting Mahathir for the latter's dangerous antics and premeditated ploys.

Indeed Mahathir is increasingly proving to be more provocative and appears to want Malaysians to walk that thin line of racial enmity just so he can fall a legitimate government.

At a time when our nation has to grapple with so many economic uncertainties and paddle in an increasingly tense geopolitical climate wrapping the world and affecting Southeast Asia's future, the last thing that any right minded citizen wants is political mayhem.

As many netizens have postulated Mahathir could have chosen to be an examplary senior, retired statesman providing the glue to bolster the current unity government.

But to beat battle drums about Malays losing power and painting a picture of non-Muslims lording over Muslims is a lethal concoction that can only explode eventually.

It appears ever more crystal clear that this doctor has not only become irrelevant but continues to believe that he is the same man who seized power decades ago.

Maybe we can excuse this two-time PM that he is trapped in his own time-wrap.

Maybe we can look to the contrary by regarding Mahathir as having waded into absolute senility.

But no one can be excused if an entire nation is continued to be held at ransom because of suspicion, hatred and discord sowed into this multiracial, multi-religious and multicultural society that is still struggling with the sins of past corruption that stubbornly remain endemic.

So I say this to Mahathir: Please sir, rescue whatever little dignity you still have so to save yourself from being labelled as the “most evil person” by the masses.

Do Malaysia and Malaysians a favour in your twilight times.

Enhance national unity. Seal the goodwill between races. Stop punching holes on the armour of Malay dignity.
