LETTER | What is Gerak Independent up to?
LETTER | Sometimes I just can’t understand what the people in Gerak Independent are up to.
First, they said that in order to institute change they must be elected members of parliament (MPs). Well, is this true?
We should all know by now that becoming MPs per se will not bring about change. To change, we need to have a sufficient number of right-minded MPs to form the government.
As I see it, Gerak Independent is not yearning for change; it is further dividing the opposition. It will not make an iota of change for the country.
If Gerak Independent is not happy, why are they directing their frustration only at the opposition? As far as I know, it is the government that makes policies as well as formulate and implement programmes for the country.
Just take a look at the constituencies Gerak Independent is proposing to contest in the upcoming general election (GE15). What are they up to really? Practically all the seats they earmarked are currently held by capable and right-minded MPs. Hence, what difference would they make if they win or lose? Will they be a better replacement to the current MPs?
If Gerak Independent is really unhappy and wants to do something about it, I suggest they contest in Pekan, Pagoh, Bera, Bagan Datuk, or Marang. They may not win, but at least they can prove a point.
To stand in urban constituencies will further divide the opposition and that sounds very opportunistic to me. Maybe they want to capitalise on the frustration of urban Malaysians. We shall see.
