LETTER | GE15: Vote independent

LETTER | Vote some independent personalities next. Let the minority independent be kingmakers in Parliament.

I am in the process of getting more to join my endeavour. Whether am successful or not I don't know. But must try.

We must break away from the indoctrination that only party linked MPs can be in Parliament. We need true wakil pakyat, not wakil parti.

The irony is that when there is a multi-corner fight in an election, the minority is said to be kingmakers.

So why not the minority independent wakil rakyat become kingmakers in the Parliament.

Imagine just having 20 to 30 truly independent MPs to check any coalition or government.

And when I say truly independent, I mean not those who have left a party and then declare to be "independent " but at the same time "friendly " to an alliance.

That is a chameleon. Not an independent.

A true independent must stand out on his or her own strength. Be vocal to support any policy for the benefit of the majority.

And at the same time bold enough to reject what is not favourable.

And this is done regardless of who or which party brings forward a motion.

I am confident that there are at least 30 such people in a 33 million population country.

The current political turmoil has surfaced the fact that most of the MPs are putting more time and energy into internal party affairs and less on the rakyat.

There must be a paradigm shift.

To reiterate: The rakyat urgently needs wakil rakyat, and not wakil parti
