LETTER | Be seen on the roads

LETTER | I was travelling on the highway recently and noticed not one, but many motorists, who use their vehicles without realising that their tail lights and brake lights are out of order.

Vehicle owners tend to overlook these lighting systems when maintaining their vehicles.

Let me remind you that if you forget to check or conveniently ignore these lighting systems, you are only dicing with death.

This will be made worse come nightfall when the visibility of all road users is reduced.

Please, spare a moment to have a look if the signal, tail and brake lights of your car are working.

The road ahead is important, but being visible from the back is equally essential to prevent accidents.

The same advice goes out to motorcyclists. Please, adopt the concept of riding to be seen.

I have personally seen motorcyclists zipping down the highway at night with all tail lights busted and to make matters worse in dark clothing.

This is a recipe for disasters to not only yourself, but all other road users.

I strongly urge all vehicle owners to be visible and please ensure that all of your vehicle's lighting systems are working well.

Let me also remind you that driving aggressively only brings harm. Do not wait until there is blood on your hands before you stop this selfish behaviour.

Do not endanger lives. Be a safe, responsible and courteous road user.
