LETTER | Stop disgracing my beloved nation

LETTER | Enough is enough. Please stop disgracing my beloved nation.

As if the past years of events were not enough, even right now, in the midst of a global pandemic where my nation and its people are not spared, we continue to see the disgrace being poured over Malaysia’s good name.

The health minister drew shocked criticisms the world over for his warm water cure against the ravaging Covid-19.

If that was not insulting to every Malaysian, he now goes on record, on a social media blitz before the president of Umno, claiming he has reached out to “500” nations in the world in an effort to make Malaysia a beaming success story in the fight against the virus that literally has brought a third of the world to a near standstill.

And the Umno president proclaimed “tahniah” (congratulations) instead of immediately correcting this strangely controversy courting and double-whammy minister.

Why must my beloved nation and its people be tested time and time again with such ridiculous and shameful disgrace?

Was the “Birkins bags” and cache of glittering diamonds and jewelry not enough? Was the unsolved murder of the Mongolian citizen not enough?

Is the mind-blowing court cases of alleged corruption and amassing of wealth being shamelessly fought in the Palace of Justice not enough?

Was the world’s unprecedented 1MDB saga that got the US to reclaim and return the stolen money to Malaysians not enough to bring so much shame on my nation – records that will remain permanently etched in the history pages of the world?

Was the coup government led by Muhyiddin Yassin and proxies of the plot that hammered away at our nation’s much-prided democracy, not enough?

Why must my beloved nation continue to suffer endlessly under the charades of these politicians?

Today, right in the middle of this ravaging and still globally unconquered health attack that is taking lives, stalling economies and threatening food supply shortages and placing untold pressures on the health care systems worldwide, my beloved country continues to be shamed despite so much of good effort by the frontliners and civil society that remain steadfast to serve the nation and its people.

Today, we continue to witness the shameless acts of the coup government that not only force-put our respected constitutional monarch and our legendary rulers in the spotlight, but continue to put political mileage ahead of my beloved nation’s integrity, honour and dignity.

Right in the midst of this global pandemic, shameless agendas continue to grind at speed - from consolidation of power to financial cartelising to appointing dubious characters into the cabinet fold, my beloved nation is being punished mercilessly.

These and many more yet-to-be-told dishevelling acts of shame continuing in the midst of a national disaster keep mounting and certainly will come cascading with more heaps of shame on my beloved nation, its patriotic citizens and our respected monarchy and trusted rulers.

Many will cry out with me in defence and for the love of my nation that was built over hundreds of years with sacrifices and patriotic vision for a greater future.

Even as we stepped out from the cold with an unprecedented historic victory of GE14 to fight corruption, we suffered shocking shame in February 2020.

Where and when and how will all these end? I turn to God Almighty in silent prayer.
