Wong Chin Huat, Teoh Yong Xin new leaders for NGO Engage
LETTER | Engage gladly announces that Wong Chin Huat (above) and Teoh Yong Xin have been elected as its new chairperson and deputy chairperson in leadership by-elections held after the retirement of former chair Seah Hong Yee.
The remaining members of the Engage leadership are Ng Wan Hua and Lee Wee Tak who represent the central peninsula zone and Ashleigh Lim and Ong Lai Mun who represent the southern peninsula zone.
The new leadership will lead for the remaining term of 2019-2022.
Building on the foundation laid by its founding chairperson Thomas Fann and Seah, Engage will continue engaging the public on issues concerning democracy, human rights and good governance.
As an advocate of choices on the electoral system, Engage consciously adopts different electoral systems for its elections.
For the by-election for Seah’s vacancy in the central peninsula zone, two-round system (TRS) was used to ensure the winner will get 50 percent support from members in the zone.
For the by-election of chairperson and deputy Chairperson from amongst all six committee members, the alternative vote (AV), which also ensures a majority winner by allowing everyone to rank their preferences, was employed.
