Bersih fundraising far from target

The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0) wishes to update the public on the current tally of our “Securing Reform, Support Bersih 2.0” fundraising campaign after the campaign’s first phase, which is the fundraising dinner held on 20 July 2019 at Armada Hotel, Petaling Jaya.

As of today, we have successfully raised RM197,528.50 after deducting RM30,021.50 for the cost of the fundraising dinner.

Of the total amount raised, RM106,200 was from ticket sales for the dinner and another RM121,350 was donation from the public. A special thank you to political cartoonist Zunar for contributing a sketch for auction which fetched RM1,700 during the dinner.

We would like to thank all individuals who bought tickets and attended our fundraising dinner and those who donated to us.

With your generous support, we have now reached 14.1 percent of our first phase target, which is to raise RM1.4 million for our 2019-2020 programmes.

We will organise more and different fundraising activities in future, including a crowdfunding campaign, to hit the required target.

We would also like to register our gratitude to the three guest speakers for the dinner - Clare Rewcastle Brown, Ambiga Sreenevasan and Maria Chin Abdullah. Unfortunately, Maria could not attend due to illness.

A special thanks to national laureate Pak Samad (A Samad Said), stand up comedian Phoon Chi Ho and Aku Street Band for performing at the dinner.

Bersih 2.0 will launch the second phase of our fundraising campaign soon with the aim of reaching 50 percent (RM700,000) of our fundraising target in 2019 with the remaining 50 percent (RM700,000) to be achieved in 2020.
