Smart Manufacturing in Malaysia - Reality Check aims to highlight the next phase of evolution in the manufacturing sector in boosting Malaysia’s industrialisation growth driven by people, processes and emerging technologies. But the harsh reality is that the vast majority of our manufacturing is still at industry 2.5  at best. How do we move forward in this case?

Discussion will include:

- Challenges in boosting Malaysia’s IR4.0 adoption.

- What are the financial incentives from govt to manufacturers

- Role of Smart Manufacturing in accelerating Malaysia’s Digital Economy.

- What are the new skills workers need in a smart factory.

Speakers:

Barry Leung

General Manager, SmartMore International

Barry Leung is the General Manager of SmartMore Singapore. He is with MSc in Statistics (CUHK) and BBA Financial Engineering (CUHK) degrees. He worked as Investment Bank Derivatives and Proprietary Trader in Deutsche Bank, BNP Fortis in his early career stage. Before joining SmartMore, he was a serial entrepreneur in the field of Fin-tech and blockchain. He joins SmartMore to set up the South Asia Regional Office in Singapore and leads the team to bring the smart industrial automation solutions to the region.

Rejab Sulaiman

Vice President, Products & Innovation, TM ONE

Rejab has been leading the product development and management for various product portfolios within TM ONE since 2019. He is currently leading the Products and Innovation as the Vice President, overseeing the overall TM ONE’s product and solutions i.e. Cybersecurity, Smart Services, and Business Analytics on top of Data Centre, Cloud and Internet. 

Rejab has 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, which includes engineering, operations, network strategy, network development, project management, marketing strategy, market planning, product development and product management in both fixed and mobile business. 

He has led several successful mega projects in TM namely streamyx expansion nationwide between 2005 – 2008, HSBB Planning and Go-to-Market between 2008-2010, PSTN migration and several legacy network migration and transformation to HSBB/NGN/IP network between 2010-2012, LTE network rollout between 2013-2018. The population coverage of about 70% for Unifi mobile was achieved within 2 years, which at the peak of rollout about 2,000 sites were ready for services within one year. 

Rejab was born in Perak, studied in University College London, with a degree in Electronic & Electrical Engineering and Master in Applied Statistic.  

Dr Yeong Che Fai

Chairman, DF Automation & Robotics 

Dr Yeong Che Fai is an Associate Professor at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He graduated PhD from Imperial College London. He is a serial entrepreneur having co-founder several technology companies including DF Automation & Robotics Sdn Bhd which produces industry 4.0 enabled autonomous mobile robots for industries. DF has exported to various countries including to Europe and Mexico. He is multiple award winners and also a three time TEDx speaker. Dr Yeong is often referred in industry as one of the top robotics and AI expert in this region.
