World Cleanup Day: A Collective Effort for a Sustainable Tomorrow
UOW Malaysia School of Engineering organised a successful World Cleanup Day event on September 20, 2023, showcasing the power of community engagement and collaboration in environmental stewardship.
A total of 211 volunteers were present, which included students, faculty, staff, and local community members. Together, their collective efforts resulted in the removal of an impressive 4450 kg of waste from various locations surrounding the Glenmarie Campus and nearby industrial areas.
Integral to the success of World Cleanup Day 2023 was the generous support and collaboration received from nearby industry partners, notably Vita Health, Unipac, Glow Trading, and the Municipal Council of Shah Alam (MBSA). Their pivotal contributions encompassed logistical assistance, waste disposal facilities, and the provision of necessary equipment.
Plastics, including bottles, bags, and packaging, formed a significant portion of the total waste collected. Additionally, volunteers retrieved electronics waste, papers, old clothes, tires, boxes, and various items, showcasing the comprehensive impact of their cleanup efforts.
The waste collected not only represented a significant step towards a cleaner and healthier environment but also highlighted the importance of partnerships in driving an impactful environmental initiative.
UOW Malaysia School of Engineering expressed sincere gratitude to all volunteers, industry partners, and MBSA for their invaluable support. Together, we have demonstrated the impact of collective action could have on our community and the planet.
