These 3 common home pests drive you crazy

What are the most annoying pests at your home? Cockroaches? Ants? Mosquitoes or others? These creatures are a thousand times smaller than us but their presence still makes some of us fearful. Here are some traumatic experiences we might have encountered with these pests.

The creepy creature - cockroach

Have you ever "run for your life" when you spotted any cockroaches - especially those flying cockroaches? You might be very unfortunate to meet those good “chasers” running towards you or flying in your direction when you are trying to escape. The most helpless moment is when your friends or partners who are staying under the same roof as you are afraid of cockroaches too, and all of you just try to grab the nearest “weapon” to repel / kill them. Does this sound familiar to you?

Let’s take a look at some of the fun facts of cockroaches. Some of you might get double whammy after reading what I’m gonna share next. One of the recent posts from the rakyat post shared that cockroaches taste like cottage cheese. Some even commented that it tasted like blue cheese when it was fried. Cheese lovers, hold in your breath.

Another shocking fact about cockroaches, as shared by thethaiger - a woman in Thailand was suffering from a serious allergic reaction after being bitten by a cockroach while she slept. (I did not know cockroaches can bite humans until I saw this news!) For that reason, it is important to keep our home clean, tidy and arranged accordingly to prevent nasty cockroaches from finding new hiding places.

The sweet lover - Ants

We all have that extra room in our tummy when it comes to dessert and sweet treats. Now, you may have competitors to “share” that sweet treat - Ants. Even though they appear to be harmless, they can be a nuisance when they get into your home. With their strong survival instincts, ant colonies can be very difficult to control once they are residing inside your property. As ants are tiny creatures, they are capable of entering through the tiniest openings and nest out of sight behind walls, inside storage rooms, and from the outdoor landscape environment.

The situation worsens when ants leave an invisible pheromone trail in your home, as an identification sign for others in their colony (thousands of them) to follow the food hunting trail. Ants rely on a scent left by their scouts to guide the workers from their colony to specific food sources in your house. You may potentially expose your home to a risk of food contamination if food sources at home are not well kept, as these ants tend to crawl and search for any food source available.

The bloodsuckers - Mosquitoes

Another annoying pests that bring the trouble and fatality to human - Aedes mosquitoes

Their deadly bite can endanger your life! Every time we get bitten by mosquitoes, we worry about dengue fever as the aedes mosquitoes easily spread the dengue virus from one human to another. At the same time, mosquitoes always make annoying buzzing noises and before they leave you with itchy bites, you might have gotten frustrated hunting them down with your hands or using any home tools that are within reach.

Chances are either you will be the one doing your best ignoring and waiting for these mosquitoes to fly out from the room or you will end up being the aggressive ones catching all of them before you can finally go to bed in peace.

If you are the latter type, I believe you may have tried these ways:

1. Spraying your room with mosquito repellent before going to bed (one of the traditional methods your mother may have used)

2. Wear long sleeves and long trousers, and also your socks to cover yourself completely.

3. Always standby an electric mosquito racket besides you.

The above methods may be familiar advice passed down by our parents or relatives, but they do not solve the root cause of the problem. Never underestimate the tiny mosquitoes as dengue easily spreads through the bite of the female aedes mosquito.
