Shopee empowers local businesses through Bintang Komuniti Club

Throughout the year, Shopee has been helping businesses digitise and grow by empowering local sellers to gain new knowledge on launching and scaling their businesses online.

With over 50 free online training modules provided through Shopee University, Shopee understands the needs of Malaysian sellers who require further guidance on picking up advanced skills to boost their sales.

Shopee Malaysia formed the Bintang Komuniti Club as an extra initiative to enlighten sellers all around Malaysia through tips sharing and networking sessions.

It is a series of physical events to foster relationships within the seller community and to understand the sellers’ pain points to enhance their selling experience on Shopee.

It is also a community where sellers’ voices are heard by Shopee through face-to-face conversations with representatives of the respective departments.

Since May, the Bintang Komuniti Club has successfully held sessions in Kuala Lumpur, Kelantan, Kuantan and Penang, and will continue bi-monthly across the nation.

Various activities are carried out, such as community gatherings, focus groups and offline classes conducted by Bintang sellers to expand the reach of Bintang Komuniti.

To encourage sellers to network and share experiences amongst themselves, community gatherings are done to strengthen the relationship between Shopee and sellers.

Bintang Komuniti Club also provides an opportunity for sellers to voice their opinions and struggles through the focus group sessions. This is a safe space for sellers to share their genuine feedback on specific Shopee mechanisms.

With these sessions, Shopee is able to improve the seller's selling experience on the platform by listening to the challenges faced by sellers. This is how Shopee has always improved to better serve the communities.

Hazirah Johari from Kota Bahru attended one of the offline classes held in Kelantan. For her, the highlight of the session was knowing the method shared is battle proven by expert sellers. “In other words, the method shared comes with results, so we feel confident to follow it.”

While another attendant Azrul Aziz remarked that the learning from the session was eye-opening. “I had a Shopee account for about 2 years, however I didn’t fully utilise all resources as I don’t have enough knowledge about it. After joining today’s session, I understand how to improve Shopee Ads and also algorithms.”

Zarini Jaafar was one of the Bintang Sellers who initiated this session in Kelantan. She explained the purpose of the Bintang Komuniti Club is to grow the Shopee sellers from A-Z. “I faced difficulties in increasing sales and did not have enough capital when I first started my business in Shopee. It was my fellow friends who gave me a hand when I was in need. Therefore when I was able to improve my sales, I wanted to assist those who faced such challenges.”

Moving forward, the community plans to assist in educating and motivating sellers on basic e-commerce knowledge through the collaborative classes between Bintang Sellers and ShopeeXperts. The classes are aimed to provide an opportunity for sellers to excel in their business with useful insights and knowledge.
