Memorandum of Understanding between UOW Malaysia KDU and Total Group Berhad

UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Total Group Berhad to collaborate in research and development activities in the areas of cloud service platform, business analytics, and artificial intelligence. The MOU, which was signed at UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College’s Batu Kawan Campus on the 22nd of April 2022, marks a new milestone in academic and industry-related research projects, focused on critical industry, social, and other current issues.

As part of the agreement, the joint venture aims to promote industry-academic cooperation by sharing expertise and resources in solving industry and current critical social issues. Leveraging on Total Group Berhad’s years of experience as a professional consultant and business service provider, the Department of Computing in UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College (UOWMKDU PG) will play both the roles of academy consultant and research partner, proposing business solutions in the areas of IT infrastructure, business analytics, and artificial intelligence.

Total Group Berhad, a new-age professional business service provider was established in 2003 as a total financial service group dedicated to serve corporations of all sizes and industries, helping them achieve their financial goals and elevating them from one level to another by applying the group’s expertise in business advisory. Total Group is also involved in the areas of fintech, financial blockchain, digital finance and e-solutions.

The UOWMKDU PG’s Department of Computing has been established for more than 30 years in Penang as the leading tertiary computing education provider. The department comprises of seasoned academics who are experts in various areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data analysis, information system engineering, cybersecurity, image processing and networking. 

“As an academic institution, we leverage our expertise to work hand in hand with business players to produce business solutions for achieving better living standards in an advanced and modern country. We also share our knowledge in contributing to the welfare and social development of the country”, said Professor. Dr. Chong Beng Keok, the Vice-Chancellor of UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College.

We believe that by collaborating with UOW Malaysia KDU, we can provide excellent solutions to our clients, leveraging on strong and vibrant academic contributions”, said Dato’ David Khoo Yik Chou, the Managing Director of Total Group Berhad.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Professor. Dr. Chong Beng Keok, the Vice Chancellor of UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College and Dato’ David Khoo Yik Chou, the Managing Director of Total Group Berhad; witnessed by Dr. Lim Chia Yean, the Academic Department Head of Department of Computing, UOWMKDU PG and Mr. Dorset Khoo Kha Sing, the CEO of GZ GROUP.

Among the attendees of the ceremony were Associate Professor Dr. Yeap Gik Hong, the Head of School of Engineering, Computing and Built Environment, Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Gomesh Nair, Head of Department, Postgraduate & Research Centre, academic teams from Department of Computing and Engineering, as well as the management and project teams from Total Group Berhad.
