PN’s Taekwondo instructor in Sungai Rambai set to serve the public through political call

Sungai Rambai, Malacca: Perikatan National candidate for Sungai Rambai, Muhammad Jefri Safry, 30, is all set to be the voice for Sungai Rambai residents as he faces a 4-cornered fight.

The experienced Taekwondo instructor decided to embark on his political career when he was in his mid-twenties. As a new candidate representing Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (BERSATU) in the state election, he has his aspirations and hopes set high to improve the livelihood of people in the constituency of Sungai Rambai.

Reviving the community through dedication and commitment

Jefri aspires to improve the lifestyle of the people in Sungai Rambai. He pledges to do his level best in helping the community by addressing their present woes and struggles.

His main concern and focus for Sungai Rambai is to bring the economic growth of the area to new heights by working out reliable ways and measures to overcome their problems and solutions in tandem with the Perikatan Nasional’s manifesto as announced on Monday by chairman of PN, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“Recently, I visited a fishing village (Kampung Nelayan) and from conversations I had with some of the fishermen, I got to understand the problems they were facing, that the jetty needed to be upgraded and the Medan Ikan Bakar, too. The Medan Ikan Bakar was closed during that difficult and tough Covid-19 time. If PN is given the opportunity to lead the state, I would definitely consider upgrading Medan Ikan Bakar to attract more tourists and visitors to the area and, eventually, all this will help boost the economy of Sungai Rambai” he said.

Apart from boosting economy in the area, Jefri has also set his aim to solve some of the long-standing issues such as floods that have been occurring frequently in Kampung Parit. The road and other public infrastructure in Simpang Empat, one of the areas in Sungai Rambai, need consistent upkeeping and maintenance.

“Kampung Parit was recently flooded even though the rain was not that heavy. When I went to Simpang Empat, I saw some road-related issues such as unpaved stretches, uneven roads and too many potholes. All these need to be fixed for the safety of road users,” he said.

He added that he visited a house for flood victims in Kampung Parit Penghulu Benteng recently to identify the cause of flooding.

“From my observation, the flood was caused by poor drainage and weak soil condition,” he said, adding that as PN candidate for the area, he would look into all the problems to protect Sungai Rambai folks’ lives and livelihoods.

Internet connectivity poses another problem and Jefri pledges that he would look into improving Internet connectivity in Sungai Rambai to ease online communication for the people.

"In terms of internet connectivity, we hope to improve and expand internet connectivity and coverage in Sungai Rambai because there are certain areas in Sungai Rambai with no internet coverage” he said.

Complementary education and Taekwondo classes

In stressing the importance of education in Sungai Rambai, Jefri longs to provide complementary academic tuition classes for all children in the constituency once the pandemic subsides to fulfil the rights of everyone to good education.

Apart from having good education, he said involvement in sports was as important. Jefri holds a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and as a 5th Degree Black Belt Taekwondo holder, he also runs his own Taekwondo Academy.

He has been conducting complementary Taekwondo classes way before the country was hit by the pandemic. Many people of different races in Simpang Empat and Sungai Rambai have taken part in the classes he conducted. He hopes to be able to continue with the classes post-pandemic.

Connecting with the Community

Having completed his primary education at SJKC Chiao Chee in Selandar, Melaka, Jefri is also conversant in Mandarin. This gives him the advantage to connect with the Chinese community in Sungai Rambai.

He has been distributing food items (Bantuan Prihatin) to the people and will continue to do so and help all the people in Sungai Rambai who are in dire need of aid and assistance.

"We do not prioritize any race here as the most important thing, first and foremost, is to help the people.

“We have been providing the necessary assistance, for example, food items to assist the people. We have provided food supply to some 1,000 houses before the state election and we will continue such a program if given the mandate. We hope to deliver food kits at least once a week or twice a month to those in need,” he added.

In terms of getting the elderly access to medical services, Jefri aims to provide complimentary transportation services to those in need. This is to ensure that senior citizens and elderly folks are able to receive health services without the concerns of having to travel far to hospitals or clinics.

We want to provide free transportation services for the people here as there are many old people here, with no vehicle to go to the hospitals or clinics.

“We will offer this service where we will pick them from their home and send them to the hospitals or clinics. This is one of the welfare programmes I have in mind if we were given the mandate to lead the state. I, myself, will drive a car to pick them up - no problem," he said.

One of the main points in the manifesto as announced by PN is the vibrancy of the tourism sector for Malacca. As Sungai Rambai is well-known for its crystal-clear water, Jefri stated that he would like to promote Sungai Rambai as a tourist attraction through “Jom Ke Sungai Rambai” campaign. This definitely will enhance the awareness of Sungai Rambai as one of Melaka’s tourist attractions and help boost the economy, too.

Empowering Women through initiatives

Jefri said he also aspired to provide opportunities and support for women in Sungai Rambai to constantly be productive and active by being involved in doing business.

“We hope to be able to provide monetary support and free tents for them to set up hawker stalls for single mothers and women who are seeking ways and means to generate or supplement their income.”

His high hope is that people in Sungai Rambai will give him the opportunity to be their voice so that he can carry on with his plans and fulfil his commitment to turn Sungai Rambai into a developed and prosperous constituency.

Come Nov 20, Jefri said voters in Sungai Rambai should exercise their right by casting their vote on polling day. “There is nothing to worry about as the election process will be conducted in accordance with strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure the safety of all,” he added.
