National Cancer Society Malaysia and Lazada join forces to raise funds for breast cancer and childhood cancer

Throughout October, National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) and Lazada have partnered to raise awareness about breast cancer and childhood cancer through Lazada’s digital giving platform, LazadaForGood. Malaysians can support the cause through two campaigns on Lazada, called ‘Pink October: Detect Early. Save a Life’ and ‘Everyone Can Play’.

The two initiatives are championed by NSCM, the first not-for-profit cancer organisation in Malaysia that provides holistic cancer-related services to cancer patients, caregivers, and the public through its six centres across Malaysia – Cancer and Health Screening Clinic, Nuclear Medicine Centre, Resource and Wellness Centre, Quit Smoking Clinic, Children’s Home of Hope, and the Adults’ Home of Hope. The ‘Pink October: Detect Early. Save a Life’ initiative aims to raise awareness for the early detection of breast cancer among women, whereas the ‘Everyone Can Play’ initiative aims to support the play therapy of children with cancer.

From now to 31 October 2021, contributions to NCSM’s ‘Pink October: Detect Early. Save a Life’ can be easily done by donating funds for breast cancer examinations on LazadaForGood, which will provide free screenings for underprivileged Malaysian women, while also subsidising screening costs for the public. NCSM works with local communities and NGOs across the country to identify underprivileged women for this programme. NCSM will issue tax-deductible receipts for donations of RM50 and higher.

“According to the Malaysian National Cancer Registry Report 2012 to 2016, breast cancer is the most common cancer and accounted for 34.1% of all cancer among women in Malaysia. Regular screening and early detection are key to combat these occurrences. The ‘Pink October: Detect early. Save a Life’ initiative ensures that women are screened for breast cancer through clinical breast examination, breast ultrasound, and mammography. Through our collaboration with Lazada, we hope the message gets delivered to as many people as possible,” stated NCSM.

In addition, Malaysians can also make donations for toys in denominations of RM5, RM10, and more via LazadaForGood with NCSM’s Children's Home of Hope as the beneficiary. The toys will be used as part of children’s play therapy that can alleviate stress and promote better control of emotions.

"We are privileged to join hands with NCSM in amplifying the importance of health checks and creating an accessible avenue for Malaysians to learn more about early detection. With the end of year approaching, Lazada is also pleased to be able to leverage the platform to spread joy to children throughout the country through the partnership. Consumers can also be assured that with LazadaForGood, donations to beneficiaries are processed in a guaranteed safe and secure transaction, making it more convenient for more shoppers to directly contribute to the community and pay it forward all year round,” said Darren Rajaratnam, Chief Operating Officer, Lazada Malaysia.

With nearly 20 NGO partners currently on the platform, LazadaForGood is part of Lazada's ongoing effort to drive long-term social impact by accelerating progress through technology and commerce. NCSM is one of LazadaForGood’s first NGO partners and has been on the platform for two years.

Every contribution counts and will have a lasting impact on the individuals and families that it will help. For more information on LazadaForGood or to donate to NCSM, please visit:
