AVM Cloud: Multi-cloud operations requires advanced data management and protection

KUALA LUMPUR, 25 June 2021 – According to AVM Cloud Chief Technology Officer Kenny Lim (pic above), the organisations of today need to put in place a strong data management foundation, to ensure that their digital investments deliver the returns that they expect, creating a more intelligent and more successful business.

“In order to do this, they will have to deploy cloud technologies that ensure scalable, flexible, and reliable data availability, backup, and recovery. They will also need to enhance their businesses’ technical capabilities, to ensure employees can draw on data insights and use new technologies as they are deployed,” said Kenny.

“Furthermore, they should foster a culture that is adaptable and open to new technologies, so that people can evolve with the organisation. That way, their people and stakeholders have a sense of confidence in the business’ digital capabilities, built on strong data foundations,” he elaborated.

Kenny said this against the backdrop of COVID-19, which dominated the business landscape of 2020 and into 2021.

“Due to the pandemic, we have seen a 60% increase in the take-up of cloud services - 96% of all organisations expect to accelerate their cloud investment, in fact. We have also seen a 48% increase in usage of software-as-a-service (SaaS), and unfortunately, a 70% increase in ransomware attacks.”

Advanced technologies to the forefront

In Kenny’s opinion, several advanced technologies will come to the forefront over the next half-decade; this includes cloud-based infrastructure and applications, data mining and analytics, agile software development, and mobile platforms and apps.

“To thrive in the digital economy, organisations must actively harness data for insights and outcomes,” he noted.

Indeed, organisations are leveraging their enterprise data in a variety of ways, including improving internal employee efficiency and/or satisfaction, identifying new revenue streams, and improving customer support, amongst others.

“Given the importance of enterprise data to organisations, it is therefore of utmost priority for them to ensure the confidentiality, reliability, availability, and integrity of their data – especially for those in regulated industries that mandate strong data protection. The reality, however, is that 23% of servers will have at least one unplanned outage, 37% of all backup jobs fail, and 37% of all restore operations fail, resulting in a 58% data recovery failure rate.”

Furthermore, Kenny emphasised, 52% of Malaysian organisations are turning to external service providers to help fast-track their digital transformation, as well as seeking a multiple or hybrid cloud environment to manage their workloads, storage, and backup systems.

“But this sort of multi-cloud strategy come with its own operational challenges. 57% of organisations have concerns about ensuring application performance and availability. The same percentage have concerns with regards to consistent security, access control, and regulatory compliance. 36% of organisations, meanwhile, worry about whether their strategy can help them with achieving their desired business outcomes.”

AVM Cloud’s strategic partnership with Veeam

This is where the AVM Cloud and the Veeam platform can help, Kenny points out.

“Ideally, organisational leaders can concentrate on implementing their strategy to run, grow, and transform their businesses, while they rest assured that their data is resilient, trustworthy, and able to be used meaningfully.”

Veeam bills itself as ‘the most complete data protection solution for all data — whether deployed on-premises, in the cloud or through Backup as a Service (BaaS) or Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS)’.

It offers data protection through multi-cloud backup and recovery, automated data retention, and threat protection, such as against ransomware. In addition, it can help with DR orchestration, data security and compliance, and data monitoring and remediation.

“Through Veeam, organisations are assured of data portability and cloud mobility, empowering them to have faster development time and time to market, improved customer and employee experience, and improved customer intimacy,” Kenny said.

AVM Cloud is today one of Malaysia’s leading cloud computing providers. A home-grown brand that was founded by Malaysian entrepreneurs, AVM Cloud prides itself by being a leader in every technology cycle since its establishment.

Earlier this year, one of the region’s leading telco groups, TIME dotCom Berhad (TIME), acquired a 60% equity interest in AVM Cloud.

TIME executive vice president (enterprise division) Kit Au (pic above) said that interest in the TIME Group’s cloud solutions has been growing due to new work trends involving remote workforce operations.

“The acquisition of AVM Cloud marks the TIME Group’s efforts in accelerating the growth of cloud computing as the newest pillar of its business, alongside fixed-line services, global network connectivity and data centres,” said Kit.

“With the inclusion of AVM Cloud into the TIME family, the group now possesses a full spectrum of product offerings that can meet the needs of its enterprise customers across the region.”
