Can RM 10 make a difference?

What can you do with RM 10 per month? For a start, you can now make a difference in someone’s life by participating in GIFT10. GIFT10 identifies individuals and families needing help and spreads the word among committed donors.

Donors directly deposit their contributions into the recipient’s account without any intermediary. They are encouraged to include “GIFT10” as a reference when depositing for easy tracking.

The inaugural run garnered just over RM2,000 and with growing awareness of GIFT10, with some recipients receiving more than 10 times that amount. Contributions are not only in cash; recipients have also been offered jobs, groceries and others.

The charity crowdfunding program is the brainchild of Datuk Paul Khoo and is supported by four other Exco members - Alvin Seah, Sean Chee, Benny Paul, Jessey George - and 12 co-founders and campaigners. Together they identify recipients, conduct due diligence, and create promotional material.

Since April 2020, GIFT10 has successfully raised over RM200,000 for 22 families. Syahima Akmar, one of our recipients, was diagnosed with terminal cancer and was forced to give up her successful career. Treatments weakened her and Syahima could not sustain herself. Over 230 individuals contributed to her cause through the campaign, and Syahima had this to say, “Thank you for giving me the strength to fight cancer.”

GIFT10’s next campaign is about Nadeem who struggles to provide for his wife and two school-going daughters. His financial difficulties began in 2014 and presently he takes on two jobs to feed his family. GIFT10 has evaluated Nadeem’s case and found it to be deserving. The campaign to support him recently raised over RM 5,400 from 78 generous donors.

The team believes in the simple act of sharing the campaign media across their network while encouraging likes and follows on social media. The vision is to attain over 10,000 followers and likes on Facebook, attract traffic to their website as well as raise awareness and lend support to their LinkedIn profile.

GIFT10 team is focused on outreach and assistance to the needy in the Klang Valley, Penang, Johor, and Melaka. The goal is to partner with like-minded people across the country who can volunteer their time, expertise and help to broadcast campaigns more widely.
