IJM Land’s program mesra Ramadan supporting underprivileged families for upcoming Raya

Seremban, 10 May 2021 – For Muslims around the world, Ramadan is a time for spiritual reflection and growth while bringing families and friends together to experience compassion, worship and contemplation. However, some are not able to practice a good Ramadan due to unfortunate circumstances that they were put into. In light of this notion, ‘Program Mesra Ramadan’, an initiative led by IJM Land Seremban 2 was organised to help Muslim families who have been deprived and struggling to make ends meet during this holy month of Ramadan - to make their journey in this Ramadan a peaceful one and to be able to celebrate a good Raya.

Through this programme, IJM Land identified three underprivileged families in Seremban who were in great need of help and contributed basic necessities including grocery items worth RM700 such as rice, cooking oil, cookies, noodles and duit Raya of RM800 to ease their burden in the hopes that it will lead for the families to have a meaningful and memorable Raya festivity.

Dato’ Hoo Kim See, Senior General Manager of IJM Land Berhad shared that these contributions could somehow make a life-changing impact and bring more joy to the families especially when Raya celebration is just around the corner - inculcating in all the values of sharing throughout the month of Ramadan and Syawal.

“During the holy month of Ramadan, underprivileged families rely heavily on contributions and food aid to get through the day. With this ongoing pandemic, we want to reconnect with the community to let them know that we are here for them - to help lift their spirits during these tough times especially when most of them struggle to even find a good support system,” said Dato’ Hoo.

Some of the recipients to receive this help from Program Mesra Ramadan are Samsul bin Kamarudin, a 44-year-old security guard who suffered from several diseases such as diabetes, asthma and high blood pressure who is also one of the beneficiaries of IJM Land’s Home Rehabilitation Programme 2019 together with his wife Salina binti Abu Bakar, a 40-year-old housewife and their 12-year-old twins (both suffering from Cerebral Palsy). IJM Land also aided two other recipients: Erowan bin Mohd Noor 47-year-old, who suffered from a structural discrepancy relying on low income and financial assistance to support his wife Noorraini binti Yahya 42-year-old a stroke patient and their three children; Nurul Huda binti Abdul Azis, a 36-year-old single mother who is deprived financially and works part-time to support her two children.

In addition to the monetary support and goodie bags distributed, Dato’ Hoo also allocated essential items and supplies such as face masks and hand sanitizers in view of the current pandemic to help the families alleviate their financial strain.

“With the uncertainties brought upon by the ongoing pandemic, it is truly heart-breaking to see these people, who are already struggling financially, having to bear more cost because of the SOPs that we have to adhere to now in public. Thus, we believe that this contribution will help them in these trying times. We are committed to undertaking all the necessary steps in helping those who are less fortunate to live comfortably and bring positivity to their homes.

“We are glad to have this privilege to help the community in improving their lives and we hope to continue this effort to benefit the society through this little contribution towards those in need,” concluded Dato’ Hoo.
