Lazada and Berkat Madinah partner in support of Islamic Relief Malaysia to aid over 60,000 underprivileged families

True to the spirit of Ramadan, Lazada Malaysia has announced a partnership with Berkat Madinah, in support of Islamic Relief Malaysia. The campaign aims to aid over 60,000 underprivileged beneficiaries from vulnerable communities in Malaysia and around the world. During the holy month, the first 1000 customers who donate a minimum of RM100 to Islamic Relief Malaysia in a single transaction through the LazadaForGood platform, will receive 1 box of Berkat Madinah dates, while donations of RM300 and RM500 will be eligible for 5 and 10 boxes of dates, respectively.

The LazadaForGood Ramadan initiative will benefit two of Islamic Relief Malaysia's programs this year, including Rezeki Ramadan campaign, which targets to collect RM2.4 million in donations through the partnership, and distribute 12,000 food packs to communities in need. Meanwhile, the non-profit organization is also aiming to raise RM3 million for their mySedekah campaign which provides aid in sectors such as food, emergency, water, livelihood, health, education, sanitation and more. LazadaForGood's partnership with Berkat Madinah hopes to encourage netizens to help Islamic Relief Malaysia achieve their fundraising goals.

“Our Rezeki Ramadan program is one of the most awaited programs for beneficiaries every year. Last year, Islamic Relief distributed food packs that assisted 989,912 beneficiaries across the globe, of which Islamic Relief Malaysia managed to help 79,543 individuals in 37 countries with 17,029 food packs using Malaysian donations,” shares Islamic Relief Malaysia. “With the pandemic taking such a big toll on the economy, those in underprivileged communities are especially in need of assistance this year,” they added, “being able to use Lazada’s large platform to support our fundraising has been a blessing, and we look forward to making a difference in the lives of even more individuals in need, together.”

“This Ramadan, and during these extraordinary times, we want to help families in need to 'buka puasa' and continue to support to the Malaysian community. We appreciate collaborative efforts such as this because working together allows us to amplify the impact we make on the communities we serve,” said Darren Rajaratnam, Chief Operating Officer, Lazada Malaysia. “The team at Lazada is delighted to work with Berkat Madinah and we look forward to supporting Islamic Relief Malaysia’s noble cause, together with the support of the public.” he added.

“We were very pleased when Lazada Malaysia approached us with this partnership idea. The Muslim community has been a large and loyal part of our customer base, especially during Ramadan, when they visit our stores to purchase the traditional dates for their friends and families for the breaking of fast." said Berkat Madinah.

TAKING CARE OF OUR 'DELIVERY HEROES'
As part of our efforts to support our delivery heroes who have tirelessly supported the community by ensuring all our packages are delivered even during the fasting month, Lazada in partnership with Berkat Madinah will also be providing dates to all its riders throughout the month of Ramadan.

"Our men and women are on ground every day, making sure Malaysians are getting the items they need safely and on time, rain or shine. Throughout Ramadan, our Muslim riders remain at their post to carry out their duties so admirably - truly our frontline heroes,” said Olivier Petra, Chief Logistics Officer, Lazada Malaysia. “We are fortunate to have them provide their services for our customers, so we are happy to share this token of appreciation from Lazada and Berkat Madinah as a thank you to them all.”

"Frontliners deserve all the credit they receive, especially as they’ve been helping us receive our daily essentials throughout this pandemic, helping us keep safe at home. During Ramadan, despite fasting through the day, they continue serving our communities well. We are glad to be able to play our part to contribute towards this gift for Lazada’s hardworking Muslim riders," said Berkat Madinah.

LazadaForGood is Lazada's ongoing efforts to drive long term social impact to fulfill our coremission of accelerating progress in Southeast Asia through technology and commerce.
