TVET Expo & Summit 2021 (TES2021)

1 April 2021

KUALA LUMPUR

For the first time in Malaysia, the TVET Expo & Summit 2021 (TES2021) will be held as a hybrid event; both online and physically on Wednesday, 7 April 2021 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The event themed Pendidikan Digital: The New Future is expected to host 5000 participants consisting of SPM leavers and more than 50 educational institutions.

In promoting digital learning and TVET education in Malaysia, SPM leavers as well as their parents will have the opportunity to explore online a variety of courses offered by TVET institutions as part of possible career paths. At the same time, TVET institutions are able to introduce and promote courses offered to students and encourage registration via online chats, while also reaching out to a bigger audience.

At the event, 16 speakers from Malaysia as well as from other participant countries will be filling up the event roster that starts at 8.00 in the morning and goes on until 6.00 in the evening.

The event will be officiated by Minister of Human Resources, Datuk Seri M. RC TVET

Online learning platform Ruang Cikgu today announced the official launch of the Learning Management System (LMS) for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), dubbed RC TVET. With challenges presented by online learning in mind, the platform is launched with the purpose of helping TVET students gain easy access to quality education online through a more streamlined and smoother process via one sole platform.

This launch is in line with the National Digital Economy blueprint, MyDigital recently announced by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the government’s aspirations in making education more accessible to more students nationwide. With a goal of filling up 500,000 new jobs through the blueprint, the digital economy will simultaneously contribute towards 22.6% of Malaysia’s GDP by 2025. There is a need for more skilled workforce equipped with technical skills in moving towards a digital era in Malaysia. RC TVET aims to provide a way to achieve this goal through an all-in-one platform. In addressing the new norm, the platform is focused on efforts in reassessing the methodology in how learning is presented by both public and private skills institutes (ILKA/ILKS). RC TVET is able to bring this potential to reality through co-operations with government agencies such as the Ministry of Human Resources.

We are pleased to be able to launch RC TVET, a solution that we have worked on diligently after realising the gap in the then TVET system. COVID-19 had complicated the learning system and we decided that it was time to introduce a solution that would help hundreds of thousands of students around the country, as well as the teaching force, who have strived to present their lessons as well as possible. With the expertise of our local in-house IT experts, our ready-to-use platform has been successfully built to fulfil the requirements set by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and the Malaysia’s Department of Skills Development to fully digitalise the TVET theory portion for students. We hope to be able to work together with the newly launched National TVET Council to utilise RC TVET for the benefit of the TVET students and educators thus maximising the potential of Malaysia’s digital talent,” said Chief Executive Officer of Ruang Cikgu, Latt Omar Shariman.

The TVET educators also stands to benefit tremendously as RC TVET is equipped with many features to ensure that trainers are able to deliver and conduct their lessons more efficiently despite the limitations posed by the pandemic. Among the obstacles in online learning through available platforms such as Google Hangouts or Zoom is the slow internet speed during certain hours while classes need to be conducted live. This can pose a problem for students and teachers as many still face problems caused by limited internet access.

The solution offered by RC TVET is in the form of recordings of classes, creating content chosen based on requests that will be easily understood by students who will be able to study their lessons on a flexible basis. Among other issues is the low participation and attendance rates among students - a major problem that needs to be addressed to ensure students are ready for their exams. This is solved through the RC TVET’s Student Attendance Verification system where time-based questions are asked at intervals to ensure students actively participate in each lesson.

RC TVET provides all these features and many more in a user-friendly interface for educators and students of TVET. Its main mission is to augment the development of digital talent in Malaysia in the coming years, as TVET institutions become increasingly important in developing a highly skilled and digitally proficient workforce. In efforts to enhance the learning experience for all TVET students and educators, Ruang Cikgu is offering access to the RC TVET platform free of charge for up to a year to all accredited TVET institutions in Malaysia.
